Cyberjaya, Malaysia – On 4 – 5 November 2017, nearly 200 regional and Malaysian lawyers, innovators and technologists gathered under one roof for the inaugural LexTech Conference at the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC). #LexTech17 provided an unparalleled platform for legal practitioners and legal tech innovators to share technologies and innovative solutions that shapes the provision of legal services in the 21st century and beyond. From the President of the Malaysian Bar to the Chief Operations Officer of the Singapore Academy of Law, and from the General Counsel of Bank Negara to the officer of the Singapore Attorney-General, in-house counsels and practitioners connected with startup founders and blockchain associations to share market knowledge and form lasting partnerships to propel the legal profession into the digital age.

President of the Malaysian Bar in his keynote speech mentioned that it is an “opportune time to have this conference as a unifying platform in discussion and in connection”. He believes that “Legal tech is the next frontier of innovation”. “This conference […] is very much in line with the Bar Council’s commitment to excellence, to continuously update ourselves in the face of progress”, said George Varughese. “With legal tech companies like CanLaw organizing conferences like this, I believe in the very near future Malaysia too will catch up with the rest of the region”, said the Malaysian Bar President. “I think if lawyers are more informed of the benefits of technology and how it can actually assist them to become even more productive, I think given time they would embrace technology”.
